Kounopetra is found 43 km south of Argostoli, and 10 km from Lixouri in the peninsula of Paliki.
It is a delightful red sand beach, with crystal clear waters which are ideal for swimming. Also they are very shallow so it’s a great place for kids.
Lush vegetation covers the entire area. It offers a few tourist facilities and right next to it is a picturesque port with boats and private yachts.
The beach itself is considered a huge geological phenomenon and is basically a huge rock that stands out of the sea, thus creating a relentless movement. According to the locals, the rock was moving every 20 minutes before the big earthquake in 1953.
